WHO WE ARE

Compression Service Technology – CST  is an independent high-tech Design and Maintenance Engineering company that prides itself on 50+ years’ experience in the field of rotating machinery for gas compression, including drivers.

CST’s portfolio ranges from engineering support for project developers to  troubleshooting in the field for  root cause analysis and problem solving, from design of  bare machines to complete packages with  relevant manufacturing, construction and testing, from the most sophisticated static and dynamic simulation studies (pressure pulsations, torsional vibrations, structural calculations, etc.), to remote monitoring by means of the tele-diagnostics, from uprating of existing machinery to conceptual design of completely innovative equipment, and many other services and products related to compression.

The main reason of CST’s success is its capability to work on across the life cycle of machinery, which allows a continuous transfer of experience from the field to the design of new equipment, and the other way round: solve problems in the field thanks its design competence.

OUR HISTORY

CST was founded in Florence, Italy, in 2002, as a service engineering provider of technical assistance for the Italian market of reciprocating compressors in chemical, petrochemical and refining industry.

‍

In 2004, one of our first endeavors was to set up a remote monitoring and diagnostic service for reciprocating compressors. Then, in 2005, we started to design machine components, mainly for reciprocating compressors. A few years later, in 2008, the company designed its first compression package for underground storage of natural gas.

In 2009, CST started to develop its proprietary software for performance simulation, followed by software for pressure pulsation, vibration, and rotor-dynamic analysis (including torsional, lateral, modal and stability analysis). In 2010, CST started utilizing the Virtual Prototyping technique to design completely new machines.

Another key milestone was set in 2011, when CST extended its Consultative Services and Troubleshooting capability to Turbomachinery; including centrifugal compressors, steam and gas turbines, and centrifugal pumps thus the decision to enter in the design of complete centrifugal compressors.

Recently, CST extended its activity from design to manufacturing compressors and compression packages; including engineering defined by piping acoustical and structural studies, instrumentations, and controls, always managing the project directly.

Thanks also to its highly qualified and integrated partners, technical universities, high-performance computing centers and international regulatory bodies, CST offers a comprehensive support to customers from conceptual design to project delivery including troubleshooting, remote monitoring, diagnostics, revamping, conversions, upgrades, asset lifecycle management, site service, and field supervision.

In 20 years, CST has grown from a local maintenance engineering provider, into an international player for critical machine applications in the energy and other industrial sectors. Nowadays, the international market represents more than 60% of the revenue of the company. This proves an increasing appreciation of CST services and products by many international customers who value CST’s competence and the quick mobilization capability for projects all around the world. This expansion required more office space, therefore the headquarter was relocated to Via Panciatichi in Firenze.

In 2021, CST associated with Blackstone Industrial. CST’s deep design know-how and capabilities combined with Blackstone Industrial’s experience on multi-brand rotating equipment maintenance in the field and in shop, provides an unparalleled value to end users to maintain and manage their assets across plant lifecycles.

CST has a multidisciplinary staff of over 30 professional engineers  with 20+ years average experience on Rotating Machinery utilized in the Energy and Industrial sectors.
The technical team is composed of:

• Professional engineers with Design and Field Experience
• Good mix of experienced and junior engineers
• Mostly graduated engineers
• Continuous “on the job training”

Our staff is supported for specific innovative projects by the collaboration with Centers of Excellence, including Universities and High Performance Computing centers (HPC).
